The Greatest of the Latest

I hope everyone had a lovely holiday. And by everyone I of course mean most people. For instance, I have no hopes regarding the nature of Nichole Richie's holiday, and I hope that Rush Limbaugh's holiday was downright rotten.

What an awful shit I am.

Anyway, my holiday was pretty nice. Those of you who have suffered my company over the years in even a peripheral sense have probably gleaned some notion as to my enthusiasm for the electro-shock-injected sport of whirly-ball. It has become customary for me to claim to be planning holiday whirly-ball outings. It has also become customary for these claims to be treated by my friends as invitations to be baked into a giant pie and eaten ala mode by a monstrous hill person.

Needless to say, whirly-ball matches never ever come to fruition.

Never, that is, until this year! This year marked the first time in a long time that I was able to flatter, bribe, intimidate, seduce or otherwise force enough people to commit to a friendly game of whirly-ball, which made me very happy. Moreover, I think everyone had a good time. I, for one, had an excellent time. This was due at least in part to having been struck by an inexplicable fit of competency, which resulted in the best played whirly-ball game of my life and, eventually, the only time you will ever see someone blog about how good they are at whirly-ball.

In any case, a mighty thanks to Boy, Heather, Luke, Kyle, Anna, Logan, Ed, and Sachin for coming out to play. As for everyone else who did not come out to play, let it be known that your star burns a candle dimmer in my heart... or something equally melodramatic.

M. gallopavo Day

Wednesday night featured the typical pre-holiday Must-Go-Bar experience with the expected peoples, minus one Toaster (a victim of weather and circumstance, aka bus). If nothing else, Old Town will look into issuing a Catch Phrase ban.

Turkey Day itself was very low-key. The family drove up north to Frankfort, arriving roughly halfway through the second quarter of the Lions game. At half-time we walked from the hotel to the Inn for our $18.99 buffets, the contents of which ranged from exceptional (the gravy and mashed taters, the Chateau Grand Traverse Late Harvest Riesling) to marginal (everything else... except the artichoke dip, which was horrid). Still, thanks were given, even for the artichoke dip.

After dinner (lunch?) there was a bout of furious napping followed by manual labor on the cottage (indeed, the true purpose for our visit), which in turn was followed by dinner-time dinner (chips and salsa con queso + chocolate milk + beer) and movie-watching (The Island).

The Sabbath

On Sunday I did two things I had never done before: 1.) I bought movie tickets for myself and my date with the change left over from a fiver I used at Taco Bell 2.) I ate food with my hands at a fancy restaurant.

The first bit is explained easily enough by the presence of the glorious Briarwood Dollar Movie Theater in the mall. The second part is explained by Heather's insistence that we have lunch at The Blue Nile, which is the nice Ethiopian joint on Washington. I'd never had Ethiopian before and it turned out to be quite pleasant, even with the unexpected number of obnoxious children littering the joint. All the foods were tasty but the next time I go I might ask if they will just feed me an entire lamb. Mmmmmm :)

In Other News...

...one day soon I am going to get crackin' on scanning some of the more important inane and exciting stupid documents to be un-earthed during The Fantastic Room Cleaning of Two-Thousand Seven. There is a flow chart from a 1998 Business Tech class detailing fifteen year old Schmerberg's path to world domination.
